Leo Laporte preannounces some major changes to TechTV. His announcement is mainly about the changes to his own schedule, but he notes that they're about to go MSNBC-live-style for nine hours during the day. Will that finally give us a useful reason to watch a network that up to now has been terminally dull and useless to anyone outside of San Francisco whenever Leo himself wasn't on the air?

I'd love to get TechTV in the Boston and North Shore area. I've really been surprised that it hasn't penetrated our area since we have a HUGE amount of tech workers and a large geek factor.

It's available through Direct TV. I believe.

We just got it through our digital cable from Charter Communications and the only shows I find myself watching are the ones with Leo on them (Screen Savers, Call For Help).

It seems other shows like Extended Play and Fresh Gear have drab hosts and put me to sleep.

fresh gear is the only show that makes me want to turn tech tv on in the first place. the hosts have great chemistry (when they happen to be on together), and the product reviews are interesting and helpful, for the most part. screen savers and call for help = full of bad, bad humor and dull, dull hosts.

Why would anyone want to watch TV about computers?
