In sort of the same vein as the MS Paint posts seen here lately is a website where you too can draw, and have the process of it captured to be watched over and over again - Sketchfu. The application isn't nearly as complex even as MS Paint, yet you'd be amazed what kind of work some of these people put together.

Don't see how there's too much of a difference between using a "simple" application like Sketchfu and using charcoal or pencil, especially if you're drawing with a tablet. If anything, achievements on paper are more technically impressive, because it's not infinitely forgiving.

I'm with Mr. Jackson. It's impressive, but not that impressive.

Ok, so I couldn't do it. Not even if I had a canvas and a couple of crayons. I'm just not that talented. I'm still with Mr. Jackson though.

This is great. I think this will be my next obsession for the next 2-3 weeks, and if my friends are into it, I'll use it all the time for 3-4 months.

So these are the paintings on black velvet of the 21st century, then?

I don't get the enormous appreciation people have for really good copies of paintings or photos in things like MSPaint. It's a program that allows you to place different colors in very specific locations; if you're good at making fascimilies and have a lot of time to waste, it can be done in Paint just like it can be done on paper.

I'm still waiting for someone to show me some serious MS Paint art that exploits the full possibilities of the medium. Crappy and simplistic graphics programs have their own merits, that certain clumsy colorful joy.

I think there's a definite interest in being able to see the process of composition. It always seems amazing to me how quickly people can produce good quality sketches, but then the whole drawing thang is beyond me.
