The "Bootlegs" section over at The Rawking Refuses To Stop has a ton of great stuff, from a stripped down live acoustic Jeff Tweedy & Jay Bennet set (right before YHF was released) to a mock-up version of the unreleased new Radiohead album using the best available live tracks from the most recent tour to a rare Paul McCartney, John Lennon & Stevie Wonder jam session to all sorts of smaller gems.

anonymous speaks to me, and, more importantly, for me. In fact, I'm not sure that anonymous does not speak for all of metafilter, especially when it comes to foot fungus and drug addiction.

Hmm. Fulfillingness' First Finale makes a lot more sense with the McCartney/Lennon/Wonder session adding context. Although Ray Charles probably did something along these lines a decade earlier.

The McCartney/Lennon/Wonder recording is...interesting. I really like John Lennon's music, but this definitely was the lost weekend. From the site: "You want a toot, Steve? A snort? It's going around," he asks Stevie Wonder (!) at the beginning of these sloppy, drug-addled sessions.

I'm listening to the Tweedy/Bennet bootleg right now and it is really great - fantastic audio quality and the song list is great too -- even an Uncle Tupelo song. Thanks, jonson. If anyone else has good bootleg-type links, they'd be great. I find archive.org and other sites to have just too much stuff of varied quality to wade through.

Someone gave me a DAT (remember DAT?) of this same John/Paul/Stevie session back in the early 90's. I only listened to it once or twice, I think, because it struck me as such a mess, but now I'm thinking I must not have had all of it on that tape. At any rate, I don't remember Stevie doing so much vocal. I'll have to check this out. Thanks jonson.

Excellent post! Thanks for this. I'm listening to the Elliot Smith live covers right now, and man, some of them are fantastic. "Jealous Guy" is particularly good. The ones from the months before he killed himself are pretty heartbreaking, though.
