Second Life is a great place for a virtual job fair, right? Well, maybe not. (That recruiter's lucky all s/he got handed was a beer...) Even the cops are getting in on the action.. Time magazine probably thinks it's a bad idea, though maybe they wouldn't have 5 years ago.

Second life is the shitty first draft (second, possibly, if you count VRML in any way) of the virtual world concept. People need to start understanding this and start working towards something that's better. See also I'm going to college in Second Life from the Something Awful forums.

I think we of the internet need to engage in osme kind of community outreach program towards tech journalists and other no-nothings and get the message across that Second Life isn't very good or interesting, and exists primarily as a way of creating shoddy stories to promote itself.

I don't understand the person quoted as saying that interviewing in Second Life was a good way to screen for 'tech savvy' people. I played with SL for about two days once, and as I recall all I ever used were the arrow keys. Maybe I was doing it wrong?

A lot of the complaints I hear about Second Life seem to stem from the fact that it looks and runs like crap. I think a really smart move on their part would be to license some older but still good gaming engine. I respect what they are trying to do, because I would love to see a working version of the metaverse, but we ain't there yet.
