Help! A Bear Is Eating Me!A podcast of Mykle Hansen's comic novel. One chapter a week, read by the author. A first person narrative, as told by an asshole, as he is eaten by a bear.

I've been listening to this on the subway, and getting a lot of looks from strangers as I snort, twitch, and wince. Hansen's got a great reading voice and perfect timing.

Japanese nature photographer Michio Hoshino was killed (and most likely eaten) by a bear in 1996.

I knew Mykle in Portland. My favorite Mykle moment of all time was when he and his old band, the Bad Mintons I think, got on the Streetcar a few stops after I did. They were wearing high-vis vests over lots of orange and Mykle was singing through the street cone that he had once brought over to my house unannounced, hoping I had stuff he could use to turn it into a giant kazoo. They played an impromptu gig on the streetcar, and I only remember one line: "This is a real nice public transit system / If I met the fella who made it, I sure wouldn't fist him." Great to see him getting more exposure.

I've been listening to this all month, and it gets better with each installment...

If you like Mykle's style, try to get your hands on a copy of his first self-published opus, Eyeheart Everything. His short story "UHF" is nothing short of brilliant.
