The Onion joins the AYBABTU bandwagon with this article:

Congress Adds 'All Your Base Are Belong To Us' Amendment To Bankruptcy Bill
WASHINGTON, DC-- Seeking to increase fiscal accountability among citizens who have no chance to survive make their time, the House of Representatives added an "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" amendment Monday to H.R. 333, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2001. "What you say!!!" shouted the bill's sponsor, Rep. George Gekas (R-PA), following the amendment's approval. "This bill will not only make debt-ridden Americans more accountable, but it has the added benefit of taking off every 'zig' for great justice." Opponents of the amendment protested that it would potentially set up U.S. the bomb.

I believe this bill was co-sponsered by House Republican James Traficant, no? I honestly thought his site had been hacked. But then I remembered he was from Youngstown.

Make your time!

I think the fact that Traficant is not of this world supports your analysis, cornbread.

Excerpt from a forthcoming Traficant one-minute speech: All your base are belong to us? Well, beam me up, Mr. Speaker, beam me up. Somebody set up us the bomb.

are there any other funny things at the onion?

Wouldn't it be great if there were some technology which would allow you to navigate to sites other than metafilter in order to answer this question? Rumor has it that IE 6.0 will introduce a new "Open URL" feature, but this is only speculation at this point.

I'd not been infected with the meme since I read the Onion article today, found metafilter for the first time, read the posts and then hunted down what the hell AYBABTU meant. Nevertheless I found engrish and obviously find and have found Japanese "taglines" of English very hilarious, endearing and cute (which could be perceived as insulting and we'd know it was if more English and Japanese speakers spoke each other's language). But to say it is an Asian-only phenomenon is undue. As I present the evidence.

Though not quite as funny as "Thohato Baked Chunk": I work at a "pan-Asian" restaurant owned and operated by nary an Asian. And in the company's vain desire to look authentic and ethnically seasoned, many Japanese headlines in Japanese characters are hung up and displayed about the restaurant and menu. But, who should bring it up, (laughingly) to my attention the other day, but Japanese speaking customers who point out that on our menu we have the headline reading "Milk and Food Poisoning" something or another. Authenticity backfire.

It goes both ways, as corporations clamor to look the look .

Abit and HP both have Base ads. (Sorry I don't have the links close by. =\) But by using the modifier "really" are you saying you've seen those ads but discount their true Baseness?
