Super Smash Brothers Brawl will have online multiplayer.

There's plenty of interesting stuff at the Smash Bros. Dojo about the upcoming title, including new characters and new items.

I don't see what all you Wii-owning Mefites are so happy about - Me and Meta Knight will kick all your asses so hard you'll be pooping boot for a week.

Yeah, I said it. I may not be the Jesus of Smash, but I'm certainly the John the Baptist.

Oh God! I think even my lack of owning a television will not stop me from getting a Wii now.

It's about goddamn time. Nintendo certainly sat on the online multiplayer for a while, there. I can only hope that the yet-to-be-named Mario Kart game also includes this magic potion.

Thank god you don't have to mess with friend codes if you don't want to.

Hopefully there will be some way of identifying the relative skill levels of prospective opponents before engaging in battle, even if only approximately.

Unfortunately, it seems like Nintendo's online MP strategy for the Wii is no more advanced than Sega's Dreamcast strategy:

Hell, we gave you idiots the hardware! You handle the specifics!.

The result?

As far as I've been able to ascertain, the only games released with a robust online component are first-party ones: SSBB and (presumably) Mario Kart.

Activision's next Tony Hawk game, on the other hand, will have online MP for the XBOX 360 and Playstation 3 only, and not the Nintendo Wii.

The end result?

Wii can hang its Opera browser and the Virtual Console; I'll stick with my XBOX 360, kthx.

Online multiplayer is a weak point on the Wii. But at least wii users don't have to pay a monthly subscription fee for the privilege of playing over the internet.

Super Mario Strikers has a pretty good multiplayer setup, but again, that's a first party title.

To be frank, there aren't a lot of good non-first party titles out for the Wii yet, regardless of online multiplayer. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and the new Metroid Prime: Corruption games are the only two I can think of. Most of the others are stupid little minigame fests. That's fun for a couple of days, but they get old, fast. These games are best suited to being rented, then forgotten.

I am really, really looking forward to Brawl.
