Shift Option Rinse A charming video of a woman testing the keyboard-cleaning abilities of her dishwasher.

Cool. But you can't tell me you wouldn't realize the keys would go everywhere? a bit of mesh over the tray would have been key. Er.

Yeah, I'd put the keys in a mesh bag at least. But then, I've washed keys by hand in a little mixing bowl for aeons. It's really not that hard. The keyboard itself I wouldn't wash -- vacuum and wipe with a rag.

Of course, you may as well combine this, if you do it, with dishwashing your baseball caps and tennis shoes.

And despite the logical knowing that the dishwasher is actually clean afterward, I'd still have to run it through an empty cycle to be sure. </monk>

I do this with my Model M keyboards. But the keyboard should go on the top rack, and the keycaps do need to be covered so they can't escape.

Also, you don't need so much soap, and they keyboard should be dried upside-down.

I like the fact that they laid the keys out in formation while they were drying. Also, do you really need to take the keys off at all? When I've done this in the past I left them on and everything seemed to get clean enough.

I just threw mine on the top rack, keys and all, no soap and the dryer turned off. Nobody told me to cover the plug. Toast upside down over the furnace vent for a couple of weeks. I had replaced it anyway for not working, and after washing, everything worked except for one of the 6 keys, and I had two of them, so the experiment was considered a success.

Great video, thanks for the link, milestogo.

My criticisms are for the nitwits that bothered to waste their time doing this. What they need is one of these.

Furthermore, the keyboard they're using isn't worth saving. They keys stick, especially delete. I have three of this animals and I know from experience. Plus, the keyboards are big and heavy. They are better, however, than the white keyboard Apple came out just after.

Those white keyboards have an unadjustable slope, needless deep keypress, and a cradle that collects debris as if it were a trash can. I refer to them as "atrocities."

The new aluminum keyboards are fantastic.

For all the haters: yes, I use and enjoy some Apple products.

I don't think my Logitech diNovo would fare too well under that treatment.

I didn't think I'd like it but I did -- the clever, witty presentation won me over (and the music was helpful too).

I've washed my Model M (and Unicomp "model m") keyboards for years, as well as a Matias Tactile Pro, without problems.

Got one of the new aluminum Apple keyboards with part of my iPhone credit, and my only complaint is that its not "high enough" to use with a wristpad/wristrest - I'm going to have to go get some stick-on rubber "feet" to make it about half an inch higher.
