Lament-Wow

Lament of the Highborne (divx) A haunting machinima from Blizzard Entertainment. It tells the story of Sylvanas Windrunner, one of the last defenders of her civilization. She was killed and resurrected by Arthas, the Lich King. In his moment of weakness she rebelled, and now reigns as queen of the undead.

The sad song is sung by Vangie Gunn. Live version from Blizzcon.

In common the lyrics are:

By the light, by the light of the sun
Children of the blood
Our enemies are breaking through
Children of the blood
By the light
Failing children of the blood
They are breaking through
O' children of the blood
By the light of the sun
Failing children of the blood
They are breaking through
O' children of the blood
By the light of the sun
The sun

The song first appears in a quest for early level Blood Elf players in World of Warcraft.

Sometimes I miss playing WoW. The song was a pretty cool way to end the quest. Shame more of the quests in WoW aren't as interesting.

Jesus that quest was amazing. Blizzard's characters have a lot of tragedy in them.

I do like it that Blizzard is finally deviating from their established play format into better developed narrative experiences. I flipped when I first finished that Blood Elf quest, it was so much more powerful as an experience than the usual end to a quest. And I think there are a lot of players who want more than the simple challenge of the quest... there's a whole realm (or several) of experience that most games just don't get near, which is a huge waste. This is a very nice step in the right direction I think.

This was also one of my favorite WoW quests. There's also some fun quests as soon as you hit Outland. One word: dive bombing.

(dive bombing is two words)

This was also one of my favorite quests, and I loved the machinima. I heard rumor of an easter egg that allowed you to hear the song being sung in Undercity pending a few conditions being met.

And WolfDaddy is so right. Blizzard really figured out how to make repeatable quests fun and rewarding in the xpac. I hope WotLK continues this tradition.

Although retuning Naxx for level 80s is going to be so awesome.

Also, there is this one quests in Zangamarsh where you take a crate full of murlocs and set them loose on a village. They proceed to break out the canes and top hats and dance around singing.

I was pretty stoned at the time but I remember laughing a lot.

Well I gave up on the priest because it was going just as bad for me as my last priest, and for some reason I got gkicked when I started a rogue so I could level the easy way. :P

This post is going to tempt me back to dipping my toes into the pit of quicksand that is WoW....the game is really coming along with more depth, lore and beauty than grinding 21 grizzled bear spleens, etc., and this is a great example.

I know what you mean, bunnycup. I played for nigh 2 years, averaging more hours per week than I care to admit in a hardcore raiding guild.

I quit playing my rogue cold turkey 4 months ago, halfway through Black Temple, as it was way too much of a time sink and my desire to graduate college superseded my lust for purples.

Having seen what's coming in the new expansion (death knight hero class) combined with their retuning levels 1-60 to move faster, I may be tempted to attempt casually playing it again.
