San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders Flip Flops On Gay Marriage. One link you-tube... but it is so honest and so touching that it simply must be watched. There is hope that the USA will get back on track.

I rather suspect someone close came out to him. Democracy is coming to the U.S.A..

Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Homosexuality, I mean.

San Diego has been a pretty backwards city in many respects, regarding social equality, so this is a definite sign of improvement. Good on Sanders for keeping an open mind. Let's hope San Diegans follow suit.

What spock said.

I yam full-on into gay marriages.

I was there during gay pride this year, my dad lives right nearby. As was discussed in the "homophobic firemen" thread in July, it's actually not the most liberal town...

Wow, any religion (Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, etc.) is fine! How tolerant, she included Catholics.

Thankfully, it was a hoax.

but not spaghetti-monsterists. I call big time discrimination.

Adding to Sanders' courage-factor: The San Diego city council vote was veto-proof. He could have gone through the motions and the result would likely have been the same policy. His videotaped message seems to be a purposeful political statement.

That was really affecting, thanks five fresh fish.

I can't nitpick a crying politician, but I must say that I would have loved to see him to throw some of the moral/emotional sympathy he was earning behind some real biting commentary on civil unions as a substitute for gay marriage; instead of speaking in such broad terms.

But still, bravo.

Surely the death knell rings for this thread. I mean, it's like the admins have lives or something. A bizarre idea, that!

My first read was that the mayor of San Diego wore flip-flops to a gay wedding.

Which I thought was waaaay out of line.

First tank-tops and running shorts to Broadway shows and on airplanes. But this? Flip-flops to a wedding? MY GOD THEY HAVE GONE TOO FAR!

Then I saw the clip.

And. Well. That was nice. So. Nevermind.
