1.) Yes, of course. It's the reason that people despise lawyers. Truth means nothing. It's all about the mercenary win -- truth be damned!

2.) No, of course not. That was an unfair characterization proffered by their enemies, elitists like Plato, who had a vested interest in keeping debating skills out of the hands of the hoi polloi.

2a.) Shouldn't the just be "hoi polloi"?

There's nothing interesting at the "debate" about 1 = 0.999999 anymore, just one argument that says it's true.

It's amazing how no matter how stupid something is, there's always someone on the internet that will take an idea and make it worse.
