Mir falls to earth

Mir falls to earth in a blaze of fireworks and sickle-hammered glory following its "triumphant mission". And damn, it looks like I'm going to have to pay for my lunch. Thanks to Taco Bell for "capturing the imagination of people around the globe".

So far my only real disappointment about 2001 is that the space station we have isn't nearly as spiffy as the space station we were supposed to have according to the movie.

Yeah - I agree, but this one deals with the actual process of falling, which was covered extensively in real-time during the previous post.
