The Right Livelihood Award "celebrates and supports people of vision. People who have ideas and apply them in concrete initiatives for the public good. They give hope for tomorrow, for a world in peace and balance. They demonstrate how we can overcome oppression, war, poverty, the destruction of our environment, and a widespread sense of meaninglessness and fear."

The Right Livelihood Award

...brought to you by the Hanso Foundation!

Seriously, in SF shows/movies the charities with vague we-love-everybody websites like that always turn out to be a front for doomsday bio-weapon development or something.

Ah, thanks, homunculus, needed to read something inspiring. This award seems to have been around for a while, since 1980, and given to interesting people. I like that Daniel Ellsberg got one last year.

Finally a post that's concerned with important things like the state of our planet. I just joined Metafilter a few days ago, and have been looking for something to comment on . . . Am I just too serious? or just obsessed with green things in general?

"celebrates and supports people of vision"

Am I the only one who read that and thought, "Huh. You mean, as opposed to the blind?"
