Composer spoofs HSM to plug Broadway show
October 4, 2007 8:27 AM   Subscribe

Theatre composer imitates teen heartthrob to plug his upcoming Broadway show. Features a cameo from one of Broadway's teen heartthrobs.

My interest in seeing In the Heights increased dramatically after watching this. FYI, it gets really good around 1:09.

Sometimes I think The United States would be a better a place if Islamic extremists took it over. This is one of those times.

I'm not going to see some underage celebrity junk here, am I?

Maybe it's just me, but nothing says unfunny like an Islamic extremists joke. Unless it's teen references I am probably too old to understand the hipness of. Sigh. *Sips coffee*

The Times just had a relevant article: Tweens Love Broadway, but Can’t Save It Alone

How about a fantasy where communists ship people off to labor camps for making dreck? Maybe that's more "heartwarming" than "funny".

I thought it was funny and well done. I love the clip of him as a kid as he's saying "Am I the kind of guy who seems kind of gay? Bet on it!"

I was hoping Barrett Foa would be involved.

I said heartthrob, not heartbreaker.

I just mentally replace the words "Islamic extremists" with "gallons of Play-Doh" or "second-hand tweed suits."

I had to look HSM up to figure out what that meant and that this was a parody. Heh. Well, the spoof is better than the original.

i really hope this becomes a big hit.

I'd love to see a bunch of celebrities pulling a charles heston and going all brown face on us right before the show ends.

That's a clever and funny spoof and perhaps a good piece of viral marketing for his show.

Particularly at his pretty solid rap breakdown.

A bad musical promotes itself by spoofing another bad musical?

Man, I thought the Miranda dance moves were hilarious and cheesy, and then I saw Zac Efron doing them. Holy crap. I choreographed some song from Aladdin in eighth grade with many of the same dance moves.

"Grab your head when you say "head!" Now put your arm out! Hit the ground! Like you're SERIOUS! FEEL IT!"

Dear Mr. President,

There are too many people I don't know on the YouTube nowadays. The references are foreign. And. The singing and crazy dancing scares me. Please see to the removal of at least five.

PS. I AM NOT A CRANK!

You are.

Ok, but I did see High School Musical though. So at least I'm not THAT out of touch. Well, I saw the first one, anyhow. And I know that Zac Efron, the star of HSM, is too orange and everyone thinks he looks gay... and that he was dating his costar but then she sent him naked phone pictures and now their relationship is all up in the air and stuff.

And I also know that there's some girl named Lauren (and honestly, I never in my life EVER thought people would consider it "hip" to be from ORANGE FREAKING COUNTY!) who was on a reality show called Laguna Beach who just like totally hooked up with Brody Jenner. But I don't really know who she is 'cuz I avoided that show... and the only thing I know about him is that he's the son of a guy who was once a totally hot Olympian and has since made some very bad plastic surgery choices that haunt me in my nightmares.

So... maybe I am.
