This is James Savage's spare room, which contains one hundred Apple computers. He has more than 150 in his house and all of them are working perfectly, from an Apple II+ and a Lisa to the latest MacBook Pro. (One entrant among many in Gizmodo's Best Computer Rig contest.)

Coveting possessions is unhealthy. Here's how I look at it: All of the computers on Ebay are mine. In fact, everything on Ebay is already mine. All of those things are just in long term storage that I pay nothing for. Storage is free. When I want to take something out of storage, I just pay the for the storage costs for that particular thing up to that point, plus a nominal shipping fee, and my things are delivered to me so I can use them. When I am done with them, I return them to storage via Craigslist or Ebay, and I am given a fee as compensation for freeing up the storage facilities resources. This is also the case with all of my stuff that Amazon and Walmart are holding for me. I have antiques, priceless art, cars, estates, and jewels beyond the dreams of avarice. The world is my museum, displaying my collections on loan. The James Savages of the world are merely curators. As I am the curator of their things, and thus together we all share the world.

Knowing that without our knowledge that itself - the net - was nothing. No function. Pastabagel wasn't the only one replaced. We all were. Every single one of us just terminal echoes in the machine. I like it! He even has the Workgroup Server 60! I used to love that form factor. I had a 6100/66 with 2 x 128mb 72 pin SIMMS (remember those?) and its 8mb onboard RAM for the longest time. Even stuck a Sonnet G3 card in it. That damn box lasted for *years* I finally replaced it with a G3/300 Desktop. That box is still working as a DNS server, almost 10 years later.

Hmm, something doesn't sit right with me about Pasta's theory. Surely there are material things we are proud to own or which is rarely obtainable. Something that holds exceptional value because we can't afford to collect them. An Heirloom maybe, brand new plasma TV,coins,stamps for their history and beauty,and iconography?. Indeed it seems many on the blue advocate a hobbie or personal passions. I suppose If your income bracket allows for disposable income you are prone to a disposable hobby.
