Slow Dance. Saw this "Poem to the Editor" in the paper version of this community rag. Supposed to be written by "a terminally ill young girl in a New York Hospital."

The headline should read Journalist Taken in By Chain E-mail Hoax.

The poem Slow Dance has been attached to the Jessica Mydek 'dying cancer girl' hoax e-mail.

At least she didn't urge you to send money -- or worse, flood the real or virtual mailbox of one of the unfortunate forwarders of this drivel. (Which, once you take away the precious story that it came from a dying child, it appears to be. Funny how that works.)

Well, I did have my suspicions about its origins, but whoever wrote the poem (Bill Gates, who's testing new software?), I still think it's a nice sentiment.

But maybe that's just because I saw it on paper first. Or maybe I'm just susceptible to "treacly" things in general.
