"Stars and Losers" and "Claustrophobic Me," two short stories by Pedro Juan Gutiérrez (author of Dirty Havana Trilogy and often called the Caribbean Bukowski), Cuban writer of the dirty realism style.

After the way other people reacted to a short story I wanted to share with MeFites recently, I sincerely clicked on that first link with the full intention of reading through it and finding only positive things to say. Do unto others and all that. I was gonna read it and then come in here and go, "y'know that was a great story. Thank you so much for sharing it John of Michigan. I feel like a better person after reading that." Blah blah blah. Really. I really wanted to do that.

I only got as far as the first sentence. This is not safe for work, just in case anyone needs that kinda warning. If this is one's idea of good writing in comparison with what I had to share? Bizarro world be missing some peoples.

Are you kidding? I don't love these stories but at least they aren't as patronizing as the one you posted.

Yeah, insofar as text can be, this is most definitely not safe for work. But the stories are good. Thanks, I'll be trying to buy some of his stuff tonight.
