Nice link. David makes for a bland guide, but I figured he was terrified of being killed.
Watch out

I've always loved Byrne's movie True Stories. Same quirky love for America as in This American Life, only more as a tall tale than a documentary.

And you may find yourself talking to no one in particular
And you may find yourself in the greatest city in the world
And you may find yourself behind the handlebars of a large Schwinn
And you may ask yourself, "Well...how did I get here?"

On the surface, David Byrne was always supposed to be a bland guy. That was the whole method to the Talking Heads madness at first, really. They were anti-Ramones... what cutting edge rock band was going to wear button up shirts and pocket protectors? That was the point of the art project.

But under the surface, I've always thought the guy was genius. He's never ceased to be an unapologetically creative individual, even when it's boring.

And all of that aside, I also love the wonderful attention he brought to Brazilian music. Of all people, he's the one who really first led me to the music of Celia Cruz & Tito Puente in the 80s.

The intimidating b-r-r-r-r-i-i-i-i-n-g-g-g-g-g-g of his bell strikes fear in the hearts of even the most jaded New Yorkers.

Boy, that was disappointing. I like David Byrne, but I was hoping for a tour, not a commute.

He needs to improve his biking skills. You shouldn't pass stopped taxis and buses on the right. Unless of whining about missing bike lanes, just travel at an appropriate speed (fairly easy in congested streets) and take the whole lane. I assume that's legal in NYC?

It's funny to hear him say "people think I'm crazy for biking in the city" and then other cyclists pass all over the place.

Manhattan is a fantastic borough to ride. I recommend touring the whole damn island. Then hit Brooklyn.

I just like that David Bryne uses the word "gigan-tor". That makes me smile.

My friend, Stan Oldak, was a former president of the New York Cycle Club and loved riding in NYC and environs. He died in a Texas bike accident this summer (hit & run) trying to qualify for a bike ride in France. I miss him.
