That's funny, but it's not really true. Google is an application. Users return to applications if they're easy to use. Assuming an app designed this way did rank highly, I doubt it would see any repeat use or garner word of mouth or genuine link-juice from influential people. If you ran some sort of ecommerce site, maybe your front page and your catalogue pages would look like this, but not your shopping cart. Only publications should be designed for with search rankings in mind, and maybe not even then.
