Someone who understands photography, please explain why this photo is so cool.

I like that picture because of the colours (soft & warm at left, cooler and greyer at right), because of the shapes and the way the line of the balcony railing draws you into the picture and pulls your eyes to the two women at the left first (which is one of the "stories" in this picture), and then lets you track over to the right to the group of people in the parking lot (which is another "story"). I like it because there's a lot to look at and consider, because the image of the two women on the balcony has a classical art look to it, because the angle is a bit unusual, because the textures (concrete, hair, rug) are interesting, as are the open doors leading back into the apartment, and because it just works for me as an image with a coherent flow between the various parts thanks to the way the various elements are placed in the frame.

Nice post, thanks.

Yes: stories, and composition. It makes me think, "I wonder what's going on here." (Nice take, biscotti!)

"Women of Mali often dress in colourful shirts, with patterns sometimes as bizzare as Osama Bin Laden, Virgin Mary or Saddam Husein. This is few miles out of Djenne in Fulani tribe territory. Girl showing her naked breats proves she still isn’t married."

Um, sure.

What I want to know, is can an unmarried woman choose to cover up? Or is that like pretending to be married. And wtf on the Husein (sic) and Bin Laden shirts (though, unsurprisingly, I have no problem with the virgin Mary shirts),

These photos are great - thanks. Spooky for me, too, as I was in Poznań a fortnight ago - it's quite a striking place...

Nice find carter. Wonderful photographs! Sumptuous. I can really *feel* what those places are like.

Surreal, disturbing and charming all at once. aww, the sad hotel.

Not quite sure why he has the photos listed under NYGUS and not his name. Does the word nygus mean anything in Polish? Cute on his Flickr page were he says, "I'm Male." Was he getting hit on when people thought he was female?

Hey, I've had this guy as a Flickr contact for some time now. He's been updating quite a bit for the past few weeks especially.

It's a shame the FPP didn't mention his winning of the National Geographic Grand Prix for 2007 in the People category. He's also been published, check out the tearsheets on his flickr stream.

Oh, and the thing on his flickr page (I'm Male) is a standard setting on flickr profile pages. If you pick your sex, it will broadcast it to the world.
