Weird. And wooden. In a good way (?). OK, I liked it, but still weird. You're cool.

That second link sounds so familiar. Shouldn't it be, "Aha!" She croaked, as she cracked her wooden leg"?

I distinctly remember my sister reciting that line as she tried to memorize it for some play.

Now I'm going to be wondering what play it was all day!

Oh, and thanks. This is surreal stuff.

misha, there seem to be dozens of versions, many of them recounted in that ten-year-long thread. Googling waved+her+wooden+leg also brings up a number of variations, as well as a few discussions about the phrase's much-disputed origins.

Wooden Leg!

Her body finished a little above he line of the waist, and she was thus not only completely without legs, but without the normal lower part of the body. Her magnificently modelled shoulders, which were left quite bare, merged into two large but well shaped bulbs, actually not stumps of her missing arms, but the rounded-off shoulder-ends.

She was, of course, German - practically all the limbless women I have seen on show have been, for some extraordinary reasons, Germans

That first link is great. Today, we forget how it must have been for people with unspeakable fetishes -- unable to contact each other, and without even access to the widespread availability of printed porn that people enjoy today.

I'm betting that those magazines would have been avidly hoarded as masturbation fodder, and passed reluctantly and guardedly from afficionado to afficionado. When photocopying became widely available, bootleg copies of the one legged stories would have been created and again, passed among furtive circles of amputee lovers. Yet none of it actually reads like porn -- it's simply men and women, sharing stories of their attraction to those with a certain disability.

I'd love to see an oral history of the porn industry outside of the USA appear one day. All those people who were supported making things like rubberwear, and stiletto heels and kinky boots in enormous sizes who advertised in the semi-respectable press. Unless you knew what you were looking at, your eyes would just slide on past, but for those who had that particular kink, or were somehow 'in the know', these small things connected them in some way, to a wider community.
