City 7 is a Half-Life 2 mod of Toronto.

Be sure to check out their media page for some screen shots. My fiancee informs me that the North York City Centre is as dimly lit and post-apocalyptic as the screen shot suggests.

God, we don't talk too often, but I have a big important favor to ask of you. Please let Half-Life 2 posts be the next overwhelming trend on MeFi. Thank you.

Oh, wait, that's not god. It's a waffle stuck to the ceiling.

They are looking for more people to help them finish the project. They look to have done a whole lot. I haven't booted up into windows to try it out just yet. The screen shots look wicked.

Agreed, once upon a time I used to use BSP to build capture the flag levels for Quake based on Central Washington University. Of course they were nothing compared to projects like this. It's amazing what can be done with the current generation of games.
If only I had the time to play with this kind of stuff again.

I, uh—that's it, really. Anecdote over.

I would like this even more if they'd set it up so that the subway station didn't say DUNDAS. It should be set up so that it very obviously used to say DUNDAS but our benefactors renamed it STREET 14.

And there should be a bunch of Civil Protection hanging out at a Timmy's. Sorry... Dr. Breen's House Of Coffee And Also Donuts.

Back in the old days, I once surreptitiously measured my friend's house and built a Doom II map of it and brought it to a LAN party (BNC cables!).

It was great when it took him a while to figure out just where he was -- I think the realization occurred when he was in his own kitchen and his mom was a Baron of Hell and there was an Arch Vile in the fridge.

Good times.

This is exactly what always appealed to me about 3D gaming.

It can be weirdly disconcerting when done in reverse: I once lead my wife around Alcatraz and the warf in San Fransisco based solely on my time there in Tony Hawk 4. It took me like 5 minutes to be ok with the sensation.

Wow. I'm sure this is a natural instinct for any fps gamer. Half the time I ride the El in Chicago I just think how amazing of a BF2 level the loop would be. The Merchandise Mart would be a humongous fort, the bridges could all be raised and only fixable by engineers, snipers can take positions up at Marina City, etc.

OK, I've finally tried this and it's really really not very good at all. Unless you know Toronto, I guess, and want to see what they've done (which is make the Source engine look like Quake 2 circa 10 years ago) with the city, I find it impossible to recommend.

If you're looking for some sweet single player mod action, get Riot Act (where the voice acting is bad not not as laughably inept as this) or Minerva (which is all-around excellent, despite some moments where it's hard to know where you're meant to go next).
