Weird, I randomly watched this Saturday. It's great. Late in the set he mentions a relative who ran against Jesse Helms. Apparently Helms ran billboards that said "Vote for Jesse: He's one of us". I couldn't tell if Zach was joking, so I looked it up. Sure enough, it's true. My girlfriend looks a little like Charlize Theron...and a lot like Patrick Ewing.

it was originally the official video, thejoven, and kanye makes an ever-so-brief appearance in it (in fact, the first time i saw it was on his site). thanks for the post, ambrosia. i've loved galifianakis since i first saw him on conan years ago, and when i saw that fiona apple video i became obsessed with it. he's perhaps the best lip-syncer i've ever seen. slightly OT, but did you know that the plastic surgery that kanye's mother died from last night was a gift from him? that's some serious o'henry-crossed-with-sophocles shit right there. poor guy.

Will Oldham is an underappreciated funnyman himself speaking of which, if you watch closely you'll spot the good bonnie prince in the new set of "trapped in the closet" chapters, i think like chapter 15 or 16. he plays the cop that interrogates twan after he gets pulled over outside atlanta.

Can someone with more time confirm if his Uncle Nick really ran against Jesse Helms in North Carolina in 1972? And if the slogan used to disparage him was real and had a substantial effect on the outcome?

Let's see. There are plenty of corroborating news stories, mentioning the innuendo of the Greek surname being alien, but of course we'll never know how much effect Helms' invective had. The outcome was 54% to 46%.
