They claim to be "the end of slideshows." Found out about them when reading up on OpenSocial; apparently they were added to the army of apps that are in cahoots with Google to bring down the hegemonic web 2.0 superpower that is Facebook (aka AOL 2.0?). Thought this was one of the more interesting sites involved.

Self-link? Because there's a blog (cache supplied since the "incriminating" post appears to have gotten the axe) that sure makes it look that way.

It smells fishy and yes, is an almost positive self-link. A google for "desolepas" returns a livejournal profile with a listed myspace as beckywbrooks. And hey, here's Google Cache of a "Rebecca Brooks" blog noting "Animoto hired me as their Marketing..." (the actual post is down)

Might I suggest that Animoto made some mistakes hiring people that like to flaunt rules of popular community sites to do their marketing.

It's like taping a bazooka to the back of your LOLCAT. And then making him wear rollerskates.

I read somewhere that Animoto did some pro-bono work for NAMBLA.

Punish Punish Punish!

Can we associate Animoto with, like, the gross DEN thread in link results?

listen, i am a mere intern and no one at this company had anything to do with this. i am an idiot and am sorry. although i have been checking metafilter for about 2 years now

I just hope the admins here leave the post open long enough for the Animoto business guys to notice in their Google Alerts where their very useful marketing dollars are going. Dear guys, spamming doesn't work, much love, the internet.

Becky, you need to learn how to self-link properly. The above statement's a surefire tipoff that something's wrong in internetland.

I know I'm not up on what social networks the kids are using these days, but facebook is a "hegemonic web 2.0 superpower?" You hyperbolized all over the carpet! Bad self-linker! Bad!

I would expect even a mere intern would understand the rules of a site you claim to have read for two years, let alone not ignore the very obvious warning right above the text box where you write a post.

I thought you might like to see that fixed before the impending deletion. So embarrassing.

Sorry, too late. Now whenever someone mentions Animoto, I'll remember the first impression I ever got of them and say, "Oh, those jerks that spammed Metafilter. Just like Stream Swivel and Vitaly Friedman. Screw that."
