Ahhh, it's nice running an "alternative" operating system, where such Windows-centric goofiness is instantly revealed for the pathetic attempt at trickery it really is. Do you think he even knows that his UI widgets are going to look fake and stupid on a wide variety of machines?

The first item is a real banner while the second item is a regular text. Ohh, really? Wow. (What's "a regular text"?) For the record, I really, really, really hate those "trick banners". They should call them "one-trick banners".

This gal is brilliant. I want to hire her. I am, of course, kidding. Trick banners certainly suck to those of us who are avid Web users, but seriously...you would be floored by the metrics they produce on services like AOL. It's more than enough for companies to not mind pissing off the technically inclined in order to nab the ignorant. Not that I advocate/support them or anything, but still.

You'll feel secure in the knowledge that none of your money was wasted on "graphics artists" or "grammar experts." Boy, nothing beats a trick banner for getting customers to whip out those credit cards!

I have font smoothing (that is, font-blurring) turned off, so the trick banner really looks fuzzy and strange on my screen. Now, if the trick banner somehow knew if you had font-smoothing turned on or off and only displayed the similarly rendered banner- well, that would be a trick banner!

Personally, my favorite "trick" banners are the "You have 1 new message!" ones in pop-up windows. Does anyone really fall for that?
