A lot of this stuff is huppie gear, but I have to admit I'm drawn to the martini glasses...

Haute Urban Professional? Like the UHB in Whit Stillman's films, except they have to work?

But are the dildos...handmade?

If you're in NYC, there's the Affordable Art Fair a.k.a. Dirt Cheap in Williamsburg (Dec. 2nd this year). Last year I got most of my small stuff there incl. handmade cards. I would call it mostly "artsy jewelry and clothing" and secondarily "art" but there's a lot of variety.

There are actually lots of handmade dildos (many artisan glass ones for example, those are amazing).

I must be really, really poor.

And Wired readers must be really, really rich.

As soon as he returns from his self-imposed exile, ask It's Raining Florence Henderson, aka jagged glass dildo.

lorimer: Were there sketches or paintings for sale last year at the Affordable Art Fair?
posted by mlis at 11:44 PM on November 27, 2007

Yes, last time at the Affordable Art Fair there was "real" art of all kinds -- drawings/paintings/photos as well as crafty stuff. Really wide range of prices; the rule is that everything is required to be less than $100 -- most is much less.

Glass dildos are quite sturdy (think about the strength of a hunk of glass that thick & that rounded). You only have to be careful never to knock them against sharp things or sharp edges, since of course if you get a nick in one it's not safe as a dildo anymore. I've had one for years, it feels incredible and very different from silicone.

Thanks for the information I am going to check it out.

To lorimer and those interested - Bust Magazine is hosting their "Craftacular" again this year. Last year was a nominal $1 entry fee. This year it is being hosted at a larger venue - the Metro Pavilion (where WFMU hosts their record fairs).

There might be some crossover between the BUST and Affordable Art fair.

Ok, against my better judgment I've gotta say that this decepticon mp3 player looks pretty awesome (mostly because I owned the toy version as a lad).

And Wired readers must be really, really rich.

Every issue I receive of Wired the more I think I'm not in their target market.

Plus, in their product reviews, it almost always seems they automatically choose the most expensive item in any category.
