Charlie The Unicorn: 16 million hits, not ever on MeFi as far as I can tell, and UNICORNS! Don't we all LOVE THEM SO MUCH?! (Where's the interrobang when you really need it?)

Lyrics to the Candy Mountain Song so you may sing along:

Oh, when you're down and looking for some cheering up,
Then just head right on up to the candy mountain cave.
When you get inside you'll find yourself a cheery land,
Such a happy and joyful and perky merry land.
They've got lollypops and gummy drop and happy things,
Oh so many things that will brighten up your day.
It's impossible to wear a frown in Candy Town,
It's the mecca of love the candy cave.

They've got jelly beans, and coconuts with little hats,
Candy wraps, choco bats, it's a wonderland of sweets.
Ride the candy train to town and hear the candy band,
Candy bells, it's a treat as they march across the land.
Cheery ribbons stream across the sky into the ground,
Turn around, it astounds, it's the dancing candy tree.
In the candy cave imagination runs so free,
So now Charlie please will you go into the cave.

Charlie the Unicorn from filmcow where you can get the video direct. There's also a store, an MP3 of the candy mountain song and a bunch of other works. Not affiliated, just passing along the word.

I see your comical story about a unicorn with 16 million hits, and raise you a laughing baby with 29 million hits, that I also think has never been on metafilter.

Is this for real?

I was going to link to the German version, but it's gone now. Are/were there other translations?

to hell I say.
posted by prosthezis at 4:11 AM on November 28, 2007

So if we've all seen it repeatedly, it has to be linked to from Metafilter for completeness? This isn't the Internet blog of record.

In ten years, you're going to wish you hadn't of posted that, ardgedee.

Heh. My son runs screaming when I start calling him Char-leeeeeeee... Char-leeeeeeeeeeee....

He has a low threshold for irritating voices.

Normally I try to follow a policy of shrugging when people post to inane shit. But this is really, really inane. And really shitty. Seriously, the guy needs an editor -- it should be half as long as it was. Then it would be amusing. As is, I just lost several minutes waiting for the lamest punchline I've heard in a long time.
posted by lodurr at 5:07 AM on November 28, 2007

I don't usually say this...but that was majorly fucking stupid. And the worst part is, it really thought it was clever. Sorry, but 12 million (and one, sucker me) hits notwithsatanding, complete and utter shit.

I tried to be amused by this months (possibly years) ago, and I just couldn't manage it. :C

Single Link Youtube Post made accceptable by adding song lyrics?

No.
posted by tommasz at 5:38 AM on November 28, 2007

Right. See, this hasn't been on MeFi yet because MeFi is the best of the web. Or, at least, that's the idea. And this candy mountain unicorn business, is not.

I feel like this would have been funny as a 3-panel comic strip. Intro, setup, punchline.

But I want my 3 minutes and 45 seconds back.

I already regret commenting. Twice. But this is still a crap post.

I just want to point out that my 11-year-old discovered this many months ago, when he was 10, and it never occurred to me that it would make a great post on MetaFilter.

I would have thought that a pre-deletion pile-on would have started by now. My hopes for even the minutest entertainment have been dashed.

Wow. You people are harsh. It's just a silly video.

This is one of those nice pile-ons with a minimum of F-words, because exlotuseater is OK. For a nasty pile-on, head north to that post about the video game.

I love this video and watch it regularly and, with the right mix of 13-15 year old students, get great mileage out of quoting it regularly.

That said, if something has already had 16 million hits, chances are there is no longer any need to link it anywhere ever again.
posted by Joey Michaels at 11:37 AM on November 28, 2007

Ha, I posted a link to this back in the Unicorn Planet thread (now there was a bad video, at least Charlie is somewhat amusing), but the best Charlie around is this one.

I kinda like the first half, but repetition of the inane is well known for its comedic potential (c.f. I'm sorry I'll read that again's use of the word Gibbons and Teapot.) Unfortunately you really need something to back that up or an implicitit recognition that you have nothing to back that up. This had neither.
