Not your average beadwork. Natasha St. Michael creates organic-inspired structures from beads. Lots and lots of beads. I mean, wow, that's a lotta beads.

I really like how organic the structures look. Mostly though, I'd just love to get my hands on them. I love the feel of beadwork. Probably something much better represented in person (but then, what art isn't?)

These are really spectacular. But OH GOD the time and the eye strain! Regular art prices wouldn't be adequate as compensation, for the hanging pieces, not hardly. I hope she's working on some kind of CNC to produce these - wouldn't that be wicked cool?

GRRR. I can't seem to find any of the images of her work up close, at least her exhibition work. I do like how much they remind me of coral, but JEEZ, it seems like she fails at web design.

This is neat, though I have to admit that after the lead-in I was expecting to see something the size of an elephant made out of beads.

It seems like all of the magic of this sort of artwork happens during the making of. By that I mean that while it might be possible to lose yourself looking at a Van Gogh, most of the losing of self involved with these sculptures happens when they're being made, not when they're being viewed. Art for the artist.

Klang, if you click on "press release" on the second page of exhibition pictures, it's a pdf with some close-ups.

From this photo, it looks like she uses peyote or brick stitch to make these things. But I can't tell which one, because the one time I tried peyote stitch, I got so bored that my eyes fell out. I think you have to take actual peyote first to keep that from happening.

Canada, why do you do this to me? Not only do you get snow, but you get this nifty artist. All I ever got was 'Piss Christ'.

Man, just think about which body parts ladies would flash for those beads.

I am terribly susceptible to beadwork. I have to exercise great will power to avoid buying it up. Much is produced here in South Africa, although not nearly as artistic as those corals. But, alas and alack, the most magnificent piece I ever saw I neglected to buy, thinking I would see the same repeatedly. Of course, I have never seen it's peer, ever since.
