Paul and Dave, creators of the extremely popular Desktop Tower Defense flash game, have just opened up their new flash games site to the public!

Currently on the site are the previously-mentioned Desktop Tower Defense, an earlier game called Flash Element Tower Defense, and two new games-- Desktop Armada and Buggle. DTD and DA have multiplayer versions for additional fun. A sequel to Flash Element will be released soon and many more games are planned for the future.

Onslaught is currently the best tower defense game, and I'm not the only one who thinks so. DTD was runner up though. The nice thing about Onslaught is that which weapons you put next to one another greatly affects the game, which adds another element to everything.

FFS, about_time. I've been playing Onslaught for hours now, and I'm not quite sure how long the last game went on for but I can give you the stats:
Wave: 454
Kills: 4408
Shots: 222279
Spend: 972346
Score: 4236101168
I'm not proud.

Tip for Chat Noir: build a porous wall by leaving a gap between each two darkened circles (that is, alternate dark-light-dark-light). Block an exit not when the cat first heads in that direction, but at the last possible turn.

I know this isn't the green, but here's the thing. I dig these tower flash games, but I have yet to unleash the fury in any one of them.

What do you Tower Defense veterans think? Is limon on to something? Do you have anything to add?

Only now do I realize limon was talking about an different game, and am now dreadfully embarrassed.

I shall now play tons of chat noir, in the hopes I shall feel less awkward once I master this cat.

That's an interesting statement, DU.

I've played Go for years, and I don't see the relation. The grid isn't the same, the movement isn't the same, the patterns aren't the same, the game isn't the same. Care to elaborate?

Have you ever played the "capture game" version of Go? That's where you just try to capture each other, with no attention played to territory. It's for teaching kids (there's controversy on how effective and useful it is, but whatevs).

Because it's usually n00bs playing the capture game, you generally just have a huge fight where they attach stones to each other's dragons to try to surround them. Eventually (hopefully sometimes) they realize you need to play your surrounding stones a ways back and then fill in gaps as necessary.

It's the same with this cat thing. You can't "play a stone" right next to the cat to surround it. You have to cast a wide net and then tighten it.

I guess it doesn't make the game "essentially" Go, but that particular aspect is identical.

The problem with onslaught and other td games is they don't let you design your own maps. That's the major strength of DTD. By doing your own maps, you can "juggle" and use all sorts of interesting tactics.

Ah, I get what you're saying now. That a basic concept of go is applicable to this game in a similar way. Got it.

I prefer just plain old Go, myself. I wasn't taught using the capture game, but I've used it on occasion to introduce other players to the game. I'm ambivalent about it.

Let me know if you're up for a game sometime. I used to be 10k-8k on KGS but haven't maintained my account for a while.

I'm not too excited about the capture game either, but I've found it's easier than trying to explain "territory" to a 4 year old.

I got to about the same ranking on KGS, but the only playing I've done in like 3 years is against 30ks at work (admittedly sometimes more than one simultaneously, but still). They've given me lots of bad habits...in addition to the ones I already had. I'd probably be lucky to be 15 kyu now.

I'll never have time for a realtime game, but do you have a DGS account? If so, I'm "desiredusername" there and you can challenge me any time (as can anyone else reading along).
