Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies. Other bacon cookies have been mentioned before, but considering how well-received bacon and odd food pairings have generally been (among other unapologetic monstrosities), I decided this was worth sharing. [via]

A friend of mine tried bacon on vanilla ice cream, and said that it was very good. I wouldn't be surprised if bacon chocolate chip cookies were decent.

Salt and chocolate go well together. I'm not surprised (salty) bacon and chocolate pair well. If you enjoy this pairing, try sea salt-flavored chocolate, or chipotle-flavored chocolate. Good stuff.

I think you'd want the bacon "well done", fried long enough to be stiff and crumbly. Among other things, that makes most of the grease go out of it.

While I do love me some bacon, whenever it's mentioned in this sort of context, I can't help but wonder if something else is going on. I mean, bacon has ALWAYS been delicious, but only in say, the past few years has bacon risen to iconic status. I can only attribute this to: a) A perfectly executed stealth marketing play on behalf of the pork industry. The "rise of bacon" does coincide rather nicely with the consolidation and institutionalization of the pork industry. b) It's up there with "kittens are cute" as just about the only thing we can all agree on. It doesnt matter if your appreciation is ironic, patriotic, or gourmet, it's still delicious. In these fractious times we need a unifying force, and bacon just happened to be available. I tend to lean towards A only because I'm cynical, and I've worked in advertising. Also, as much as I love bacon, I've recently re-discovered that cheeseburgers are better without bacon. In this day and age, that's pretty much akin to Keanu waking up in that tub of goo.

Also, as much as I love bacon, I've recently re-discovered that cheeseburgers are better without bacon. Careful, son. You're about to plunge headlong through the looking glass when you realize that, as delicious as bacon is, everything is better without bacon, even bacon. And then things start to get weird.

There is, to be fair, a lot to get; the menu at the Fat Duck reads like no other. The current tasting menu, for example, includes both sardine on toast sorbet and snail porridge. There's white chocolate and caviar buttons, or bacon and egg ice cream. He makes basil blancmange and beetroot jellies, pairs salmon with liquorice and cauliflower with chocolate. To a restaurant-going public, grown weary of media-hungry chefs trying to manufacture their 'unique selling points', this could look like just so much innovation for innovation's sake, but it isn't. Here, I should declare a greedy interest: I am a huge fan, both of Blumenthal and his cooking. There's no doubt his menus read curiously, and the chef is not beyond chal lenging us with language. There would be far fewer raised eyebrows if that snail porridge was listed as a muesli of oats and escargot (even though his description is more accurate) or the mustard ice cream as a frozen mustard cream. But the linguistic tricks are part of the fun, the challenging curtain raiser to the main event, which is the exquisite dishes he cooks. Or, as he puts it, 'Everything has to come down to "does it taste good?" If it doesn't taste good it doesn't go on the menu.' Snail porridge and mustard ice cream both taste very good indeed.

I once went to a party where fried bananas wrapped in bacon were served. I didn't try them, but it's not because I don't like bacon, it's because I am distrustful of bananas. I wish I could sample these cookies over the intertrons before committing to actually making a batch.

I dated a girl several years ago who I met in a laundry mat. She had her dog with her at the time. We went out to some bar to shoot pool for our first date and she brought her dog with her. I have always harbored a suspicion of bananas. Just sitting there, yellow, wrapped in skin, like they know the thoughts in my head. Often, when I have something confidential to tell someone, I glance around to make sure there are no bananas in the room. I can't put my finger on why I don't trust them, and it's probably not fair to be so prejudiced, but it just seems safer this way.
