Yeah, that pool should be renamed "Bears in hats," god damn it. Someone contact the authorities about this. posted by dersins at 12:05 PM on December 13, 2007
Or, if they don't fit, at least they're fitting. posted by wemayfreeze at 12:05 PM on December 13, 2007
that's it. the bears are feeling a little chirpy, so instead they stayed home and are laboring to find the perfect-fitting hat for their little chihuahua babies dogs.
And just sometimes the internet can be a beautiful place. posted by slimepuppy at 12:30 PM on December 13, 2007
Bears look really stupid in derbies. They don't look half bad in berets though, especially when they're tilted at a jaunty angle. posted by iconomy at 12:31 PM on December 13, 2007

I suddenly have this wonderful image of gfmoon all camo'ed up, stalking through the woods looking for a wild Kodiak.
After much tracking, she spots a likely subject. She leaps and there is a wild tangle of limbs and roaring, only to result with a very chagrined bear wearing a smallish knit hat trying very hard to look demure, so as not to get it's ass whipped again. posted by quin at 1:44 PM on December 13, 2007
Bears just wear hats different. I don't feel there is any need to stigmatize their hat culture just because they prefer a different fit than we do. THEY HAVE DIFFERENTLY SHAPED HEADS FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! posted by Astro Zombie at 3:24 PM on December 13, 2007

"C'mere, Mr. Chocolate, and let me adjust the angle of that beret."
They have huge, dagger-sharp claws on all four paws that could rip a man apart in one swipe, but do we accessorize them with sensible mittens and rugged work boots?
No, it's all about the hats! "Oh, won't the bear look cute with a jaunty little beret perched over the matted fur of his tick-ridden ear?!"
When you start out with a flawed premise like that, of course there will be design flaws in the finished product.
It's no wonder the hats don't fit. They're lucky they didn't end up with big red noses and baggy suspenders! posted by misha at 4:00 PM on December 13, 2007
"C'mere, Mr. Chocolate, and let me adjust the angle of that beret.
[Treadwell, whispered] My, aren't you just a saucy little thing. So handsome. Oh, I can't take it anymore. Just one secret little kiss won't hurt anyone, will it Mr. Chocolate? I won't tell if you wont.
[Herzog] These are the actual last, last known words of Timothy Treadwell. What I felt unable to directly show in my film was this cultural taboo that Timothy so eagerly crossed. I attempt to overtly document the taboo by documenting everything but the taboo, and in doing so Timothy's perverse but deep emotional, spiritual and physical love for the bears illuminates itself in its own absence like a thousand suns. Indeed, like Icarus, Timothy's final step across the bridge resulting in the direct confrontation of the overwhelming, violent indifference of Nature itself; and like Icarus, in so doing he is destroyed by that which he sought to love the most.
I feel somewhat unconfident about this treatment but feel it is a passable solution to a daunting puzzle of the human psyche, a puzzle reflected perhaps in each of us in our own endeavours and obsessions.
Our greatest hope, our greatest folly - just bears in silly hats. And tutus. posted by loquacious at 4:35 PM on December 13, 2007 [1 favorite]
Mister_A: Fun fact, my childhood nickname is "Booboo," yes, after the bear. No, I don't know why. I didn't show an affinity for pick-i-nick baskets or anything. Parents are weird. posted by grapefruitmoon at 4:47 PM on December 13, 2007
