The Bali Roadmap

Two weeks of international climate talks marked by bitter disagreements and angry accusations culminated Saturday in a last-minute U.S. compromise and an agreement to adopt a blueprint for fighting global warming by 2009. Now comes the hard part.

"We seek your leadership," Kevin Conrad told the Americans. "But if for some reason you are not willing to lead, leave it to the rest of us. Please get out of the way."

Oh snap! *woofs, arsenio halls*

It disgusts me that America has been such a pathetic citizen on this issue. It shows one of the negative aspects of our focus on free enterprise and economics, I think: in order that our profits not be threatened, we are willing to plug our ears and close our eyes. The pretense that there is still scientific debate about the reality of climate change (as opposed to the ramifications) is one of the premier embarrassments of our history.

You could argue that it's purely corporate, but many people in the poor and middle classes have latched onto the propaganda and now cling to it as if it were central to their being--which it is, I suppose.

Your post is the same as the first paragraph of the single article you link. That must have been easy.

Yeah, one link FPP to an AP article on a story that's at saturation level. I drop by here for more than this.

In defense of America, we did elect Al Gore president in 2000. I mean AL GORE. Throw us a bone world!

But yeah, lets hope we get a democrat president next year. As much as I would like to see Ron Paul mix it up in Washington, he would possibly be even worse than W on the environment. Once we get an Obama or something we will be all up in the environmental hizzy.

I'm glad someone made this post for discussion purposes. Everyone knows the US was going to be DOA, at least until 2009 - that is why Gore was in Bali as a second un-official delegation to give other countries someone to talk to. Which suggests that if Clinton wins Gore might have an official role in the future, although he seems to do better outside of politics as a sort of elder statesman visionary gray-beard (typical boomer).

This is why it's so important Democrats win in 2008, we can't afford another 4 or 8 years of inaction. Even if you believe climate change is a hoax, the rest of the world is moving on, we will become isolated further and very likely the Euro will replace the Dollar as the world currency. If your concerned about the economy, be concerned about the US position on climate change.

This has nothing to do with climate change.
