Photos of ancient, exotic ruins, peppered with pictures of monkeys? Christmas came early!

Pictures from the land of my country's supposed enemy.

The US couldn't possibly be at odds with a country where such beautiful photos can be taken.

I suppose this is a post to refute those who believe that Iran is full of slavering, filthy-faced humanoids crawling on ruins.

If there are such people, they will be shocked to know that people drink tea in Iran and that tulips grow there.

I think the photos linked on that pages are slowly becoming more and more broken...

... Posted previously, but good all the same. For those of us, slathering or not, who're unlikely to ever get there.

Say, here's an idea: humanity is beautiful, and so are its customs (OK, some of them, like the drinking of tea), its works of art, its natural wonders...so let's not bomb the fuck outa this place.

Ah! Because only AMERICANS have some wrong notions about other countries? No wait that can't be it. Oh - all Americans think Iran is full of slavering etc etc! No that's not right. Huh - I guess I don't really get your insight here, but it's nice to see that American Exceptionalism is alive and well.

American Exceptionalism is exceptional only in that the country is so new and so many optimistic Enlightenment-type expectations were part of the initial experiment. It is still new, and some of us are still hopeful. (Me, not so much)

As far as some nations having "wrong notions" about other countries...well, yeah. There are about 200 "countries" in the world, and countless "tribes," all of which have "wrong notions" about the OTHERS.

In fact, I probably have a few "wrong notions" about my wife.

I'm sure the U.N. will take care of our relationship problems, though, even though we are not part of the Axis of Evil, at least according to George Jr.

Yeah, this was posted just last March, but I don't mind seeing the pictures again, as beautiful as they are. Of course, being an Iranian American I'm biased. Also, it's cool to witness Americans/Westerners who didn't know what Iran looked like get turned on to its beauty, particularly those who assumed it was all just desert. But photographs of Iran pop up quite often on websites and blogs, it would be nice if we saw some well-shot landescape/everyday life pictures of some of the other "enemy" countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia*, and North Korea.

*Yeah, technically not an unfriendly nation to the West. Uh huh.

Self link to two galleries of photos from Iran. Having been to many of the places pictured in the link, allow me to confirm that Iran is wonderful, full of good people and good food.

Pictures from the land of my country's supposed enemy

I really wish people would give up this goofy idea.

I mean, let's reverse it.

Can you imagine how utterly ridiculous it would be to go to some Iranians now, or Iraqis in 2002, and tell them

"Hey, looky here. See this mountain? Isn't it beautiful? And look at this gentle seascape with a quaint lighthouse on a tiny, rocky islet. And what about this man playing frisbee with his dog in a park? And, hey, here's a picture of a prairie dog. Ain't he cute?

All of these photogenic things are in America.

Therefore, Americans are your friends and would never bomb or invade you."
