Rabbit pulled out of a Language Hat

Language Log reports that erstwhile MeFi demi-god Language Hat has outed himself as author of an interesting sounding new book about "Untranslatable Insults, Put-Downs and Curses," available in progressive English-speaking countries but not as yet in the USA. I guess the MeFinsiders must already have known, but for us others: nice to meet you!

Languagehat was the reason I started reading MeFi. I bewail my residence in a nonprogressive-English speaking country, because that looks like a fun book.

I have always wondered why being called a "bottle" was such an insult in German. Maybe this book will let me know. I love books like this, bravo LH.

Congratulations on your new book, languagehat.

I have to echo matematichica here. While languagehat may not have been the sole reason why I started reading MeFi, the quality of his contributions is among of the reasons why I've stayed a reader.

Is there any way to spray-paint "languagehat is God" around this site, the same way that "Clapton is God" appeared on London's walls in the mid-1960's?

Isn't it nice that we get his services for free here?

I would just say that the finest use of the word pissant was Monty Python's "Immanuel Kant was a real pissant"
