Wayne White's paintings

Wayne Who? He left Tennessee to study at the New York School of Visual Arts with Art Speigelman (he posed holding a broomstick for some of the characters in Maus) and Red Grooms. He came back to Tennessee to do puppetry work for a children's show called Mrs. Cabobble's Caboose, (5th link down, mpg) which in turn caught the attention of CBS who hired him to do the set direction for Pee Wee's Playhouse (I'll defer to this excellent post for Pee Wee videos), for which he played Mr Kite, Randy and Roger the Monster. Where else have you seen his work? The video for Peter Gabriel's "Big Time", and the video for the Smashing Pumpkin's "Tonight, Tonight". This was inspired by my tiny little comment here and he seems to be mentioned in passing here and here. Also: Waxy weighs in along with jonson, his IMDb profile and his Wikipedia entry. Not for use with some sets, consult doctor before taking internally.

I love the art, it's great. Plus, his turn as Vance the pig was the best thing about Pee Wee's Big Top.

I have never heard of this guy before, but I love the paintings. They were cool upon first look, but seem even cooler once I learned that he was painting other other works.

I love these. One by itself might look gimmicky, but his body of work taken as a whole is brilliant. The specifity of the colors for each piece and the resulting compositions elevate the banal reproductions to something magical and sparkly. They work on a purely aesthetic level as well as a conceptual one. Thanks for the post.

Thanks for making the full post about this guy; I enjoyed your links yesterday. "Other television credits include production and set design for Riders in the Sky, The Weird Al Show and Beakman's World." Sheesh, here I thought that TV and movies in my childhood had a style. Turns out it was all one guy.

Holy mackerel: this guy is terrific! His paintings also bring to mind the (excellent) opening titles to Panic Room. It's a neat effect, and it wouldn't surprise me that they'd lifted the style from Mr. White.

Here's the the Google vid for the Mrs. Cabobble's Caboose show, lest we blow anyone's bandwidth. Sadly enough, this brings back way too many memories of long summer afternoons in Middle Tennessee. I'll go hide now. Enjoy.
