I blame Asterix for the fact that, for many, many years, I misspelled asterisk.

There was no 'v' sound in classical times.

I didn't realize this (despite the obvious clue that the V glyph was used instead of U) until I heard Randy Cohen pronounce caveat emptor as "cow-ee-ought emptor" in the last Ethicist.

To this day I'm still surprised when I quote Asterix books in conversation, and nobody notices. Still, Timeo danaos et dona ferentes, as I always say.

Asterix is one of those things that I see and remember a whole world of my childhood, and conisder how many worlds I can't recall anynmore
