Dee Dee bellbottom jeans. According to a friend who lived in Tokyo recently, Dee Dee is rumored to be one of the hottest independent brands this winter, among the ultra-hip Shibuya youth. Dee Dee's shop is just a few blocks from the notorious Shibuya 109 building, the homebase of all kogals. (prev)

Sorry, redteam, but fashion is still slimming everything down; which is also a more 50's, 60's kind of thing (slim suits, teddy boy jeans, etc.). Personally, I am a fan of the slimming movement and I am pretty confident that these bell bottoms are not the next big thing.

If you're more interested in mens denim fashion, I recently went to Hinoya Mart in Tokyo and saw a huge variety of premium denim. Guy Trebay profiled Hinoya Mart in the NYT last summer: Out-Levi-ing Levi Strauss.

I miss JNCO.
I'm currently wearing baggy jeans that are also like 10 ridiculous sizes too big. They have lots of pockets. The cuffs are way too long and ragged.
I, too, miss my JNCOs. I used to have a pretty early pair in green in superultrasoft denim. They weren't stupid huge with a gazillion pockets like the later pants, just oversized baggy jeans with giant pockets.

By the way, speaking of "whta's new", I'd like to mention one of my all-time favorite misspellings sighted here in Japan: the oft-mistaken (interchangeable, really) "L" and "R" resulted in a deliciously appropriate display at Tower Records in Shibuya several years back:

until then, my question is this: If Japanese teens live in an apartments the size of a shoe box, where do they store their 50,000 outfits they wear every day?
