Just FYI, UNIQLO is a Japanese clothing chain, much like GAP. What that has to do with this site, I dunno. posted by zardoz at 8:23 PM on January 7, 2008
I think I got my ass kicked? Or maybe I was part of an online participatory art project? Or I was part of a cruel CIA experiment? Or maybe I just helped make a video for the first single off of Luaka Bop's new Blip Hop comp? Or maybe I just learned something about myself? You know, I don't even know if I had fun. Anyone just wanna play a game of dots? posted by Slack-a-gogo at 8:25 PM on January 7, 2008
Alright. My current goal is to clear the grid and make one huge square. Who's with me?

I really thought this felt like a really weird ad. The bouncing, look-at-me brand-name squares just turns me off.
... And then all you do is... look at them.
And it turns out, I check in here, and zardoz says "Just FYI, UNIQLO is a Japanese clothing chain, much like GAP."
... This is really brilliant advertising. posted by blacklite at 9:57 PM on January 7, 2008
I can't get over how ad-like it is! Can you imagine if you told some marketing people "hey, I bet we can have your little square logo be stared at and turned into a game as people compete to make it bigger and theirs and their own colour!" They would poo themselves. And here it is, done!
I hope you've all enjoyed your programming for the day! posted by blacklite at 10:00 PM on January 7, 2008
Surprisingly hypnotic (and I second blacklite on this being brilliant advertising).

Just spent some more time with the Uniqlock. The polo shirts the dancers were wearing last summer have been replaced with turtlenecks and grey skirts, but they're still doing the same moves in the same rooms with the same camera positions. They've added a ton more music snippets to the music randomizer.
Now it changes the music mix and dance videos over the course of the day. If you hit the clock when it's late night in Japan (3 AM-ish), the music is downbeat and the 5-second video snippets are of dancers sleeping on the staircases or at desks.
And at the top of the hour, there's a 30 second video of a man dancing with a clock.
I wish I had clients cool (and rich) enough to not only to make toys like this but evolve them like this. posted by ardgedee at 3:13 PM on January 8, 2008
