I'm partial to Who Wants to be a Millionaire's "Adverbs or verbs?" idjit. Unlike most "stupid" contestants who are merely flustered by having to make quick decisions in a high-stress situation, this guy lets his pigheadedness come to a low boil and simmer for the course of a few minutes. He forgoes all reasonable advice and blows all his lifelines on one of the easiest questions out there, to high-larious effect. Apologies for the color commentary in that vid, though... I couldn't find a better copy anywhere else.

Great stuff. Out of curiosity, anyone know what John Davidson was supposed to answer to the question, "Traditionally, Japanese brides used to shave what off at the time of their marriage?" I know nothing about Japanese nuptials, traditional or otherwise. The way the question was phrased, it's hard to think of anything that isn't too dirty for 1970's/80's broadcast daytime TV.

ericb's snopes link confirmed a more sinister example i had heard of but never believed; when the host of the newlywed game asked the woman what the one family secret was that she wasn't supposed to talk about, and she chirped back that her brother and her cousin had talked about killing her uncle for the insurance money. minutes later, her husband's answer to this question was revealed and it was the same.

I don't know if it has any relation to nuptials, but I've seen some ancient Japanese films which made it clear that the standard of beauty among mature women ideally involved shaven eyebrows (and blackened teeth).

Game shows like The Newlywed Game, Hollywood Squares and the Match Game all relied heavily on double entendre (or often, if Fannie Flagg was involved, single entendre).

On the UK version of Family Feud (aka Family Fortunes) one answer sticks out in my mind. The question was "Name a type of ache" The answer given was "Fillet of fish". To this day the only way I can possibly see this as having been a related answer is if the gentleman in question thought that Les Dennis said "Name a type of hake". I was awestruck at my fellow man at a tender age and have yet to see this topped. Awesome.
