Justice, the french electro-whatever group (read: Daft Punk)(previously discussed here) recently had their addition to the prestigious FabricLive Series rejected for not entirely clear reasons, although the relatively short length (40-something minutes) and taste (or perhaps the lack of) may have been factors. Justice, being the gentlemen they are, decided to give the mix away as a Christmas present to their friends (yes, I'm a little late on this, but not as late as you, presumably), and it is now readily available for anyone to download here. I'm only familiar with a few of the artists in the mix (Fucking Champs! Goblin!), but it's a pretty good time, and definitely a big, fat middle finger to most of the minimal techno mixes which Fabric usually releases, which is probably why they rejected it in the first place. Lots of old pop, funk and super-cheesy french music (and the FUCKING CHAMPS!), tell me what you guys think!

Wrong again.

But seriously, this was a really cool move on their part. I think you will probably get a lot of flak for this post, however, as soon as someone cooler than me tells you that Justice sux for some reason.

Yeah, in all honesty I would reject this mix if I were A&R for the Fabric Live series. I like Justice, and I like their shenanigans but this mix is more something I would expect from Back To Mine or Late Night Tales, not FabricLive.

Justice is coming to town in March! I can't wait.

If you like Justice, I suggest MSTRKRFT, as well.

Also - for future fpp's:

1: Take the time to use proper punctuation and grammar.
2: Less is more.

I mean maybe they rejected it because it was a boring old party DJ mix like any indie band would make? I mean Chic? Could you get any more obvious? Todd Rundgren, Frank Stallone, Frankie Valli? Fabric is London's premier nightclub, not some drunken student disco

Yeah, the subject of the post I like very much. It's too personal blog-style for a FPP, though. A good thing to keep in mind (from the longtime member with no FPPs, but pay no attention to that) is to pretend like you're presenting it to an audience, and you're on a stage, so you have to be fairly impersonal. You don't really want to talk to the audience as if you're in a cozy room together. Also, pretend like you're presenting this information to complete strangers, so you won't be tempted to be chatty. But Daft Punk is the reason I'm commenting anyway, so I'm glad you did.

I am a huge fan of the FabricLive series, I''ve been a subscriber since the very first releases, and they've done some pretty off-the-wall stuff... the John Peel mix album comes to mind. I've also had some of the best clubbing nights of my life in Fabric, coming off the dancefloor at the end of the night drenched in sweat and endorphins, head buzzing with tracks I've never heard before and tracks I thought I'd never hear in a dance club.

If you want a great FabricLive CD, look at the track list for FabricLive #9 by Jacques Lu Cont. The Steve Miller Band? Brian Eno? Devo? The Pixies? STRAUSS? But my sweet lord it works: it is a truly amazing piece of mixing, its peaks, troughs and climaxes are judged with perfect precision, and it is fantastically danceable.

This Justice mix is many things, but it's not good enough.

Grabbed the mix a week or so ago from themixingbowl and have really enjoyed it. I find Justice mixes more listenable than Daft Punk but think Daft Punk make music that will (and has been) around for longer, remixes included.

The Fabric series is amazing, I have spent hours with it. And this post is appreciated. You have turned us all onto something good and possibly unnoticed. (The mix just downloaded, and I can certainly understand at the onset why Fabric said, "No.")

Now, about your fpp...

Justice, notorious french electro-house group [previously] recently had their addition to the prestigious FabricLive Series rejected for not entirely clear reasons. (Although the relatively short length, 40-something minutes and taste (lack of?) may have been factors.) As a (late) Christmas present to their fans, Justice decided to give away the mix (!!!) and it is now available for download here. [More inside...]

I'm only familiar with a few of the artists in the mix (Fucking Champs! Goblin!), but it's a pretty good time, and is definitely a big, fat middle finger to most of the <s>minimal techno</s> other style mixes Fabric is bets known. Lots of old pop, funk and super-cheesy french music. (Not to mention, Fucking Champs! [YouTube]. Enjoy!

...and that is what I think. [ PS. If you want to know how to do the basic HTML wizardry, just "view source" from your browser, and track it down for yourself. Now, go get yourself a plate of beans and contemplate.]

PS. Use Preview.

Also be aware in your FPP that, in what lands on the front page, some html works and some doesn't. And thanks for that mix... it was a good thing to have on while doing things around the house and with the fambly. I love old material presented in new ways.

I look forward to your next FPP!

I mean, I dig Justice.. to a point, but MSG? I tend to think more of groups like Led Zeppelin for venues like that..

Yeah! To slay the beast of minimalist dance wankery!
Had this mix for a few weeks and it is straight up FUN.

Hey pretentious DJ assholes? Remember "fun"?

You know, fun, back before the lionization of DJ culture made all you stoic cocks pretend to be Serious Artists (the easiest path to that being obscure obtusion—noone will call you out on your wankery if they are even remotely afraid of "not getting it") and shave all the remotely interesting bits out of your music for fear of being too cheezy.

Justice (and seemingly the rest of the french dance scene right now) understand that minimalism isnt so much of a style as it is a hiding place for guys without any good ideas.

The tide is finally turning back to EVENTFUL dance music and I couldnt be happier.

Oh, please. Justice has absolutely nothing to do with minimal dance music. There is no battle. There is no tide. There is no competition for audiences. It's not like Richie Hawtin was ever playing MSG. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to say the rise of Justice/Ed Banger has precisely zero to do with electronic 4/4 at all.
