The Panopticons are a series of 21st-century landmarks erected across East Lancashire, England, as symbols of the renaissance of the area (not to be confused with Jeremy Bentham's Panopticon).

Yes, I find myself unexpectedly impressed by these...next time I'm visiting my parents I might suggest a jump in the car & a panopticon trail.

Now that is a strange choice of name.

Wow, the Singing Ringing Tree is quite striking, and a sound sculpture to boot! I like it.

But I have just one question: Are we doing Stonehenge tonight?

Well, just watch out for those holes if you're anywhere near Blackburn. I'm told there's about 4000 of 'em.

Cool! It's like Burning Man meets East Lancashire.

Augh! I think it's surveilling me, but I can't tell. I guess I just have to behave as if it were!

Awesome.

In a neat bit of synchronicity, I was fascinated by the Singing Ringing Tree sculpture in a sculpture book I received as a present a few short days ago.

Decent modern public artworks are too few and far between.

Pendle? I smell a witch!

I don't know - I thought the first two (Colourfields and Atom) weren't very visually interesting (kind of clunky, very 1970s architecture, only in sculpture form, and that wasn't a good architectural period). The Halo looks good, but Oh! the light pollution. Don't we have enough already? Why do we need to ruin our skies even more?

The only one I'm impressed by is the Singing Ringing Tree, which is both striking both visually and audiably.

From the first link: Panopticon n. Structure, space or device providing a comprehensive or panoramic view.

I'm still having trouble seeing how these sculptures have anything to do with this definition.
