All blue-eyed people have a single common ancestor who lived 6 to 10 thousand years ago.

To put 6000 years in perspective, it is about 300 generations - or in terms of a long-lived 80-year lifespan, about 75 long lives in a row - separate us from the original blue-eyed child of destiny.

My paternal grandfather has blue eyes* so I guess I'm descended from this person, too.

*hugs all blue-eyed MeFites yelling "Howdy, cuz..."*

*and both my parents have green eyes yet I have eyes so brown you can barely see my pupils. genetics is weird.
