Also my absolute favorite sketch comedy show ever. Especially "The story of everest." However, this site wasn't as cool as I was hoping. Derrick Beckles told me last night he thinks he heard the word "fuck" in a commercial and he also says he heard someone in a buy.com ad claim they had "tons of shit." Also I heard from this one guy that maybe he might have seen this one thing in real life that was like a Mr. Show thing maybe once.

When I was in law school not too long ago, some of the upper class students organized a sort of "drama night" where law students would perform skits they wrote for an audience that included other law students, professors and their respective guests. My friend adapted "Blow Job" for the stage, changing very little except for the name ("The Law Blows"). In the sketch Danny, an aspiring young lawyer, whom I played, is welcomed into the profession in a rather surprising way. We practiced a lot and did the skit justice. And got a lot of laughs.

Lowkey - I was watching PBS the other night and though I forget the specifics, during the space race one plan put forth by the Army to demonstrate western space superiority was to detonate an atomic bomb on the moon (a natural response to Sputnik I suppose).

Mr. Show, for me, was always about the segues/transitions, and the way they tied it all together. Watching it in clips on YouTube doesn't do the show justice.

What a completely unreadable blog entry on an otherwise interesting subject. I felt the same way. The post is still worth its salt because it's always nice to rehash some of Mr. Show's best skits (and, yes, perfect title, boost). It was a such a clever show, some of the smartest comedy I've seen. It's a little bit sad seeing them now, though. They were so young and early into their careers when Mr. Show premiered, and it seems to me that none of their stuff since has reached the same height. Every time I see Odenkirk on adult swim or Cross doing stand up, I just wish they would all reunite and put out another Devastator or Pretaped Call in Show, or remind us that Sad Songs are Nature's Onions. We can always dream...

unquestionably, odenkirk blows cross out of the fucking water. Cross blows Odenkirk out of the water on acting skills. Bob always looks uncomfortable on screen. But I suspect he's the better writer. The former at least is proven by David Cross getting a lot more acting jobs. More money = better than.

cross blows oedenkirk. also, he's a better performer. and standup. the blowing up the moon sketch is the perfect example of how ruinous bad editing can be to a well written sketch. I'm inclined to say that it's responsible for mr show not taking off when it was on the air, simply because so much good material gets destroyed by fucking the timing up in post. if you read a transcript of a mr show episode, it's much much funnier than the actual episode.

While this series of posts caught my eye, I admit that the linked blog has yet to really fulfill the promise that the nexus of two of my personal favourite phenomena should: the brutal Vice Do's & Don'ts and the mind-numbingly amazing TV Carnage series. As for Bob and David, I still enjoy seeing them both pop up from time to time (like Tim and Eric's "Pussy Doodles"). I am still trying to build up the strength to see either of the films Odenkirk recently directed (Let's Go to Prison and The Brothers Solomon) and couldn't possible afford to chase down all of the Cross cameos.
