This year, with a race so close and primaries ending so early, it's hard to make the difficult decison about who to vote for and to support. Thankfully, there's one issue that makes the decision a whole lot easier: is your candidate open-source? posted by koeselitz (35 comments total)

Links to a bunch of candidates' websites and Netcraft queries? Awesome! GYOB.

Fuck Ron Paul already.

Well, isn't this more a reflection on who the candidate hires? I seriously doubt that any of them has much savvy regarding the technical issues, nor do most care about details on that level.

Because all of these candidates are certainly directly responsible for deciding which OS their web servers are running.

Some info on their actual attitudes about FLOSS would be more helpful. The above just reflects who each chose as a hosting provider. Why don't you see if you can get statements from cadidates on their attitudes regarding Creative Commons, GPL, BSD, and other licenses. If you manage it, let me know how the hell you did it.

Who is this Ron Paul you speak of? I am intrigued.

The irony is that Bill Gates gave money to Obama's campaign.

Because the little war we're in isn't that important...we should look at this factor in making our decision????....

/do we still have a "who cares?" tag???

I insist that the next president of the United States be able to patch and compile the kernel. Clearly the problems with the Bush Administration is because he can't.

Not me. I am basing my decision on this and their iTunes playlist.

I am basing my vote on who I would like to sleep with; so, once again, my vote goes to Jennifer Connelly.

Barack Obama pledges support for Open Source document formats.

Barack Obama, Google campus, November 14: To seize this moment, we have to use technology to open up our democracy. It’s no coincidence that one of the most secretive Administrations in history has favored special interests and pursued policies that could not stand up to sunlight. As President, I’ll change that. I’ll put government data online in universally accessible formats.

Google is my friend. Not that any of this is extremely serious, I just thought it was amusing and slightly interesting.

Correction: John Edwards ran some IIS in mid-2005. It was a very long time ago, and he's apologized for it and admitted his mistake.

I found it very easy this year to decide who to vote for: no one.

Is there a single candidate adamantly against the war in Iraq? No. At best some are wishy washy and at worst they're all hawkish. None of these suits represent me.

I don't really care who runs IIS or Linux.

However, I will not vote for any candidate running MOSS. Sharepoint delenda est.

ZachsMind... You're right... but, on the other hand, I've never voted for someone with whom I was in 100% agreement with on all issues.... I'm certainly going to vote for the individual that is most in sync with my views and is going to do the least damage rather than throw my vote away.

If nothing else I can always say "it's not my fault, I didn't vote for the idiot", like I've been doing for the past 7 years!

Somebody should put together a corruption index, that adds up all the criminal acts government officials have committed and then by relationship with other officials. It would be kinda like a six degrees of separation governmental corruption scale.

From the title I was hoping we would be able to modify and update the candidates as a collaborative effort. Nah, that would be democracy.

Sorry, I really should elaborate. This is stupid because of the reason subcub mentioned. The candidates likely had nothing to do with this. I don't care if Barack runs Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Solaris, FreeBSD, or even OS/2. It just doesn't matter.
