Currently listening to "See Emily Play". [This is badass!]

Stay Alive by Trapt? Nope. Cold and Jaded by Adema? Uh uh.

Looks like they need to load up more songs.

This will almost certainly be blocked by my workplace inside of a week. But dang.

Strike one! (Nothing for "Thanks for Chicago, Mr. James" by Scott Walker)

Apparently this is just a means for interacting with content from Seeqpod.com, so I'm guessing Seeqpod would have to be shut down for this to stop working.

It's pretty cool, though, and saves me from the usual method of searching on YouTube for various songs I've got stuck in my head.

They don't have Still Alive or That Spells DNA by Jonathan Coulton, but they've got a pretty neat acoustic version of Re: Your Brains. They also have Jason Webley. So I'm reasonably impressed.

I'm really getting a kick out of this.

It plays Great Lakes Myth Society!

Dear Prudence by Siouxsie & the Banshees - check.
posted by Senator at 1:13 PM on February 8, 2008

If you just type in a song name, though, it really needs to tell you the artist of the particular song they decided to play.
posted by Caduceus at 1:19 PM on February 8, 2008

Stars by Hum - loaded but wouldn't play, ahhhhh.

holy shit. awesome.

Nah, they could just point it at Google MP3 searches or something else if that happened. It's just playing MP3s found around the the web. None of the audio is hosted by them. So as long as people post MP3s on the web, this or something like it will work.

300 Pounds of Heavenly Joy by Howlin' Wolf not there, TEH EPIC FAIL

I asked it to play me Journey's "Faithfully," and I guess it found a version at a strange sample rate, because it played back at a hilarious speed. Highly recommended.

Played a kickass version of 'Let It Ride'...

No Steely Dan "King of the World"
posted by Miko at 1:46 PM on February 8, 2008

No "Heartbeat It's a Love Beat."
No "She Was Waiting For Her Mother At the Station in Torino and You Know I Love You Baby But It's Getting Too Heavy To Laugh."
They've got "Fox On The Run," though.
I'll give it a "C."
posted by Floydd at 1:54 PM on February 8, 2008

I'm not certain what it plays when you search for artist=Crass, but it's pretty hilariously not what I was expecting.

Oh god yes. That was fantastic. It dropped off after the first chorus, though, dammit.

Looks like a decent replacement for G2P. But for recent stuff: Hype Machine, hands down.

Bring da Ruckus - Wutan Clan = nope

If you want it to bring the "motherfucking ruckus", you've got to know its "Wu Tang", not "Wutan". Otherwise, its pretty friendly. "Ruckus", "Bring the Ruckus" and "Bring Da Ruckus" all worked, so long as I didn't qualify it out with mispellings.

I tried about a dozen songs, all with no luck.

I finally got love with George Clinton.

Why must I be like that? Why must I chase the cat?

This could actually be a fairly killer app if there was an easy way to direct link to songs.

shmegegge The Morphine song is called Candyland, but no go on that either. But I'm Free Now did play, same album so I would assume Candyland should be there.

My Pal by God is on there, I would have never guessed. Cool post.

It's not too hot British novelty records...

It's same booting up youtube for those 'how did that song go?' moments...

I think Songza's a little better.

I am not so happy with the way Seeqpod will pull and serve an mp3 from a blogger who's writing for the love of it with no context, no link back, etc etc.

Yeah, I tried it out with some fairly obscure 80s Australian Garage Rock ("My Pal" by God), and it played it! Then I was left wondering who the hell was hosting "My Pal" by God so I could check out their blog or site. Alas, no way of knowing (easily).
posted by Jimbob at 3:33 PM on February 8, 2008

Songza is much better, in terms of finding more music.

I'm listening to (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone by the Untouchables right now. Great song. (I love the Monkees too!)

We oughtta just make a list of everything everybody is looking for (other than that Wu Tang crap) - people know a lotta good music that I haven't heard of, apparently -

I am satisfied. I typed "Eddie Murphy" into a text box and pressed play. And lo and behold, I heard "Boogie in your Butt".

Appears to be back up. Although, I typed in "People are People" and got an acoustic piece, that, while pleasant, bears no similarity to the Depeche Mode song I was looking for.
posted by boymilo at 8:12 AM on February 13, 2008

I've been using this to good effect, but I just got a wierd one. I searched for Johnny Cash's version of "Bobby McGee" and got some sort of way bad reggae/DJ thing.
