The best advice we ever got was from our first pediatrician: "You can't spoil a baby under 6 months old." With a few babies under my belt, I definitely agree. I'd even go farther: You can't spoil a baby under 9-12 months and you can't spoil any child with something you really, fundamentally object to.

This video either makes me think that nerds should not be allowed to breed or that only nerds should be allowed to breed or that babies should all be grown in tubes and raised in institutions like in Brave New World or that everything should stay exactly as it is now and whoever wants to should be able to have kids and do with them pretty much as they will, even videotaping them interacting with internet in-jokes and then posting those videos to the internet. This video has obviously brought up a lot of complex emotions for me that I am going to have to sort through. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Meaning it is impossible to spoil a baby that young. Which is not to say you won't FEEL like you've spoiled them. And you'll definitely have people TELLING YOU you've spoiled them. But babies that age change so fast, and are so dim, that there's not enough time.

I've found that once you get 3 or 4 babies cinched around your waist, arms and legs flailing, spoiling is pretty much no longer an issue.

I tried playing the video for my babies as an experiment. Miranda watched it for a few seconds, sighed heavily, and turned her head to the side until I stopped it. Tabitha seemed mildly interested, and began to wiggle her arms and legs and fuss a little when it stopped. She also burped, suggesting that Rick Astley may make babies gassy.

This would probably work just as well with any music video of that vintage - bright lights, lots of motion and camera cuts, lots of stuff going on. The baby doesn't know that it's Rick Astley and it sucks, only that it's visually interesting. Lots of small kids were plopped in front of MTV in the 80s for the same reason.
