Obama Reggaeton from the Tejanos wing of the Viva Obama movement. Love the big, white hats! The website is so fresh, it was probably done today. How can you beat somebody so hot?
Senator Obama shares the growing public concern about illegal immigration in the United States. The challenge facing President Bush and Congress is how to effectively stop the flow of illegal immigrants across our borders, better manage immigration flows going forward, and deal with illegal aliens who are already living and working in this country
Instead of mass deportations, Senator Obama believes that Congress must pass comprehensive, compassionate reform that reaffirms the rule of law and brings the undocumented population out of hiding.
Nice try with the video and all, but Obama's official position on immigration does not appear (to say the least) designed to mollify Hispanic interests. posted by three blind mice at 1:20 AM on February 22, 2008

Perhaps "Hispanic interests" don't want to be mollified, but merely have a candidate who takes them seriously as a constituency. In the debates, Obama went out a limb to reframe the "drivers licenses for illegal immigrants" issue ("...they're not coming here to go to the In-N-Out Burger. That's not the reason they're here. They're here to work."), yet did in a way where he cannot be accused of simple pandering. posted by jonp72 at 6:12 AM on February 22, 2008

Wow, Zonker, that song is almost completely devoid of funkiness. Bring on the Ray Conniff Singers! And mosch, as soon as I hit "post comment" I remembered that one. Query, though, whether it's really about Hillary-as-candidate --more like Hillary-as-putative-hottie (analogous to the Obama crush). Form vs. function, if you take my meaning. posted by GrammarMoses at 6:37 AM on February 22, 2008
I guess this would be a convenient place to post Cumbia de Obama, done by a couple good friends of mine! posted by snofoam at 7:03 AM on February 22, 2008 [1 favorite]

This is not going out on a limb. That's just stating what a large chunk of the democratic party has said for years.
In terms of just illegal immigration, he is not the best candidate for Hispanic interests. In terms of everything else, so far the majority of hispanics have decided that Clinton is better. We'll see how Texas turns out though. posted by Stynxno at 7:25 AM on February 22, 2008
The Hillary tribute is whoa... whitebread scareyville.. But .. minor rant ... I repeat .. I repeat do not care about how much inner 'funky,' or 'rockstar' ness you have as a candidate. I do not care if you are bussied with Bono or the Guy from Matchbox 20. I really dont. so put away the sax, the electric guitar, the classic rock or salsa tracks. In the same debate where Obama delivered the "In 'n' Out Burger" line, Hillary was much more mealymouthed on the issue of "drivers licenses for illegal immigrants." She probably had it workshopped in focus groups for months. As for references to "the majority of hispanics," that depends. I live in the state of Virginia, and exit polls from my state indicate that more Hispanics voted for Obama than Clinton. As this preliminary analysis of voting trends indicates, Obama tends to do better in states where there are more native-born Hispanics. Obama's problem is not necessarily a problem with Hispanics per se, but with recently naturalized immigrants. As information about the two candidates become more broadly diffused to all Americans in the social structure, both native-born and immigrant, I think Obama will do better, because Hillary Clinton's campaign strategy seems to be based on ensuring "low-information voters" stay at a low level of information. posted by jonp72 at 10:14 AM on February 22, 2008

I liked that cute Obama video of the fpp. It prompted me to read a little about the Mexican population in the USA:
1 in 7 Mexican workers migrates -- most send money home
Roughly 10 percent of Mexico's population of about 107 million is now living in the United States.
The current migration of Mexicans and Central Americans to the United States is one of the largest diasporas in modern history, experts say. posted by nickyskye at 3:52 PM on February 22, 2008
So, I guess Hillary Clinton's music videos are either sad or for lesbians.
Even Ralph Nader has a better music video... and he's only running an exploratory campaign so far. posted by markkraft at 6:32 AM on February 23, 2008
