Lawsuit claims Cookeville, TN police allow K9 to attack a compliant suspect, then plant weed on him. Film at 11.

This post was deleted for the following reason: "OMG look at these assholes" threads about cops are really starting to get into "these are the sorts of posts that go terribly here" territory. single link news story with added youtubery for OMG outrageness isn't really something neat on the web and discussion is always predictable. -- jessamyn

*gives hand gesture to indicate usual MeFi suspects should post pro-corrupt police officers comments*

I would've tazed him.

"Cops are fascist pigs!"

"No they're not! Don't let the actions of a few bad apples speak for the thousands of dedicated public servants properly carrying out their duties in stressful and dangerous working conditions!"

There. I think we can pretty much wrap this thread up.

What I don't get is that they knew the camera was there. They look at the camera. Did they plan to take the tape and somehow forget about it?

They thought it wouldn't be noticed. I mean, who is going to dig too deeply into a case about a wife-beating, brown-skinned druggie? Especially with that cop's belly and crewcut! That's some serious authoritay right there.

"Your dog just ate my leg off,” Ferrell said on the tape.

Look dogs have to look out for their own safety first during a traffic stop and if a few suspects get their legs eaten off when it would have been possible for the dog to not eat their legs off then I think that is sometimes attributable to those with legs not acting in a more cooperative manner which then leads to their legs getting eaten off.

In other words, I would have eaten his ass's leg off too.

Also, I think that all of these threads where we watch cops arguably behaving badly and some people say "Fucking fascist pigs! A cop is just a bully with a badge and a gun" and other people say "Hey look they were just doing their job, I could see how that could have been a reasonable response to the situation. That suspect didn't cooperate." that we aren't really arguing about cops at all.

We are arguing about our fathers.

No. I've been clean lucky for five or six years now.

And I really don't want to be "that (anti-cop) guy", but I also felt it would be irresponsible to give this incident a free pass; nobody else was making the post. Many "bad cop" threads have passed in the meantime, not by my making. Okay, now that I'm done defending the messenger...

This incident was interesting to me in that I don't recall police ever being caught actually planting drugs on a suspect on video** -- including a pre-arranged handsignal, which implies that this is not a singular occurance. Up 'til now, it's something that people "know happens", and you hear about sometimes, but something about seeing it on video really cements it from lore into reality. (Similar to how the Abu Ghraib pics garnered so much attention -- I don't think a simple press release would have generated half the outrage.)

I think the look into the camera implies that they don't think there will be any repercussions for their actions. Indeed, I believe they feel they're doing a good thing by getting a domestic abuser a little more jail time.

** Please correct me if I'm wrong -- not finding anything on the 'Tube.

You have got to understand, he did the best he could, he was just so young when he had you! And your legs looked delicious!

Notice the past tense. A spin class wouldn't kill you, you know.

I would have eaten his ass's leg off too.

Dude had regular legs, AND an ass leg? That's like totally a whole goddam bunch of legs.

Damn shame. There's a huge market for men willing to stir piles of dirty panties with their ass-legs.

On second thought, I suppose that if you were to take a spin class and make your remaining leg look really good and then go home and see your father and he were to be driven to a fit of mad hunger by the site of your newly delicious looking leg and then proceed to eat it off and you were to die from loss of blood, then I suppose that, arguably, a spin class could indeed kill you. But they are a great way to meet new people and tons of fun.

The first link says the perp now admits he had drugs with him during the stop. That doesn't mean cops aren't crooks or that the dog handler isn't a sadist.

I thought that article was unclear as to who admitted to having drugs. Carlos copped to it, or the cop?
