Star Wars (1962). With Frank Sinatra as Han Solo, David Niven as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Joey Bishop as Chewbacca, Shirley MacLaine as Leia, Norman Fell as Owen Lars, and Peter Lawford as Tarkin. Sammy wanted to play Vader, but Sinatra browbeat him into playing "that Skywalker cat," and Dean Martin took the role instead. The movie was knocked out in three tremendously soused weekends and sank quietly at the box office. It still awaits any kind of DVD release.

Great, great, great. However. The choice of typeface is kind of a letdown. On its face, the haphazardness of that font screams Saul Bass; in actual fact, though, Bass would have more probably used a clean, crisp sans serif like Gothic, or a hand-drawn facsimile of same.

Dad-gummit, I was going to post it so that my only two FPP's would be related to Saul Bass, only to have a stomach bug suspend my internet access. I couldn't type and pray to the porcelain god at the same time. I enjoyed the heck out of it, they did a great job capturing some of the fun of titles from the 50's and 60's. And it made me think that more movies could use a lively jazz score. Also, I noticed youtube has a lot more of Bass' credit sequences up since I did the original post.
