Pretty funny, but I really can't tell for sure if they are serious with the christian message, or whether it is just a joke. It seems most likely a real message delivered with a good dose of humor, but I can't completely rule out the other possibility. posted by recursion at 9:38 AM on March 6, 2008
They are so on the nose it's actually less funny, at least for me. Memories of church camp. posted by DU at 9:39 AM on March 6, 2008
I'm fairly sure it's an act, but even if it's not, "The pants come off when the ring goes on" is damned funny. posted by hellslinger at 9:45 AM on March 6, 2008
You know Recursion, I've met them after the show and seen them perform 3 times live, and I'm still not sure. I personally thought it was a joke, but I'm not really all that sure. posted by Del Far at 9:47 AM on March 6, 2008

Their website says:
Gideon first saw “the light” as a young child after falling head-first off the roof of his home while trying to fly in his Superman costume.
I'm thinking, no, they're not at all serious.
Also, DU, I sympathize. posted by nzero at 9:49 AM on March 6, 2008
Umm... what's the joke supposed to be here? Christian youth movements tend to be a bit grin-faced and hammy? It's had zero thought put into it. The best I can posit is that they're actual Christians satirising lazy LOLXtians humour by being deliberately crappy. Christians play acoustic guitars and have no sense of irony, amirite? posted by RokkitNite at 9:50 AM on March 6, 2008
(Also, the fact that they claim to have gone to a college that doesn't exist screams satire to me) posted by nzero at 9:53 AM on March 6, 2008

I haven't watched the clips yet because my damn ISP has started capping my bandwidth during peak hours but it can't be any less funny than del's posts from yesterday.
But: two posts about two teenage comedy acts in two days, from a new member who appears to be a drama student? Not accusing anybody of anything, but I do hope we aren't being gamed here. That sort of thing doesn't tend to givewell. posted by PeterMcDermott at 9:55 AM on March 6, 2008
no don't worry Peter, Ill change it up tommorow, I just know a lot of sketch comedy stuff, I kind of spent a whole lot of time when I was working during the summer just going to comedy clubs and I found out all this stuff. posted by Del Far at 9:59 AM on March 6, 2008
Well, they've successfully satirized the most annoying thing about this style of music, which is that it is really bad music, lazily written, based on mind-numbingly repetitive open-chord guitar patterns, and sung poorly. Which puts me in a quandary: Why would I want to listen to it? posted by Astro Zombie at 10:22 AM on March 6, 2008
Jesus Christ, this is awful. posted by ZaneJ. at 11:09 AM on March 6, 2008
This is another UCB group... so comedy is def the point here. posted by BobFrapples at 11:18 AM on March 6, 2008
In some subjects, a sufficient inoculation of the jesus permanently destroys the L zone of the brain where humor is generated. The damage is not regenerated following deconversion. posted by fleetmouse at 11:54 AM on March 6, 2008
This is just like that "God hates a fag" video from last year - such an accurate parody that you can't tell whether it's a parody or not, which is either really brilliant or defeats the purpose. Like the "fag" guy (who turned out to be a Dallas-based comedian if you misssed it), I bet youth pastors have tried to order records from them. posted by DecemberBoy at 1:51 PM on March 6, 2008
I interviewed these guys (on air, they stayed in character) in August on Festival FM.
They're not for real, I promise. posted by genghis at 4:15 PM on March 6, 2008
